Why are Vego's the best self-watering planters?

We make the best self-watering planters because we think of you, the gardener, when we make them. Not everyone has the time to spend all day in the garden, although we'd love to. Our self-watering planters save you time, and they're built to make gardening as easy as possible for you.

Can I grow other plants in a tomato planter box?

Of course! A tomato planter box like Vego's is versatile enough for peppers, cucumbers, or even small herbs. The self-watering feature means all your plants get the care they need, even if tomatoes aren't on your list of things to grow this season.

How much water does it take to fill the reservoir?

The reservoir has a maximum capacity of 2.4 gallons.

How much water should I keep in the reservoir?

We recommend keeping your reservoir around the middle mark of the water gauge.

How much soil does it hold?

The planter's soil capacity is 1 cubic foot.

What kind of soil should I use?

We recommend using our Vego Planter Mix or any indoor potting mix that contains at least 30-50% coco coir. We do not recommend using peat-based mixes, garden soil, or topsoil.

How often do you refill the reservoir?

This will vary depending on your plant's water use, but we recommend refilling whenever the water gauge shows "Refill".

Should I only use the fill area or should I water the soil like I am used to?

During the first few weeks, it may be necessary to water from the top as you normally would in a regular planter. This deep, thorough watering encourages roots to grow downward toward the reservoir where the wicking action can take over. At this point you can rely on the self-wicking function to make sure your plant has the moisture it needs.

What kind of plants can I put in here?

Most indoor plants work great, apart from cacti and succulents.

The water in my reservoir smells bad, what should I do?

High water levels or organic matter decay can create anaerobic conditions that lead to a foul smell. To fix this, first move the planter outdoors. Then, remove the water level regulator's plug, set it to the 90-degree position, and continue adding water into the reservoir until it overflows from the regulator to replace the old water. In the future, reduce the amount of water used to prevent this issue.

My water level gauge isn't working, what should I do?

The float at the bottom of your water level gauge may be stuck. Give it a gentle shake and it should loosen up and begin working properly.

How can I contact Vego Garden Customer Service?

You can call us at (866) 597-1888, use our online chat, or email hello@vegogarden.com. Our Customer Service team is available seven days a week from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM CST, except on holidays.

How quickly will Customer Service respond?

You can expect a response to emails or voicemails left outside business hours within 24 hours. We often respond more quickly during the workday. Our team provides support seven days a week.

When will my in-stock order ship?

In-stock items are usually prepared for shipment by the next business day and then scheduled for UPS or FedEx pickup. This is the preparation time, not the delivery time. If more than five business days have passed since you placed an order for an in-stock item and you have not received an update, please contact Customer Service at hello@vegogarden.com.

When will pre-order items ship?

The estimated fulfillment date is listed on the product page and in your order confirmation email. Please place a pre-order only if the expected wait time works for you.

When will an out-of-stock item be back in stock?

The estimated restock date will be listed on the product page when available. If no date is shown, please contact Customer Service for more information.

Do you ship to Alaska, Hawaii, or countries outside the U.S.?

Yes. Shipping to these destinations involves an additional shipping cost. Email hello@vegogarden.com with your address and order details, including the quantity, type, and color of the beds, so Customer Service can provide a shipping quote.

What if the package gets damaged during shipping?

Because of the weight of our packages, there may be some panels bent in transit if UPS/Fedex handle it in a rough way. No worries, you can fix this easily so your gardening isn't delayed. Our panels are manufactured through a bending process from flat steel coils, in other words, they were bent before. It will not affect the corrosion resistance to bend them back. It may be hard to bend all the panels at one time, but you can always bend them back one by one. Here is an instructional video you may find helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lh3PWhQsFGI.
