What is the frame made of?
The Greenhouse frame is made out of heavy duty Aluminum frame, they are powder coated that rust free.
What is the panel made of?
1. 8mm Double wall polycarbonate panels, with a UV-protected coated layer outside for our Greenhouse.
2. 8mm triple wall polycarbonate panels for roof and 8mm double wall pc panels for walls, with a UV-protected coated layer outside for our Greenhouse.
How long does it take to assemble a greenhouse?
As a general estimate, it takes 12–24 hours for 2 people to assemble a greenhouse. This time can fluctuate slightly based on how many people are assembling.
Can I install the greenhouse against any wall?
For the best performance and safety, the greenhouse should be attached to a structurally sound wall, such as concrete, brick, masonry, or a wood-framed wall with secure attachment into the wall studs.
Decorative wall finishes—including vinyl siding, fiber cement siding, stone veneer, decorative wood cladding, fences, and trellises—are not designed to support the weight and wind loads of the greenhouse on their own.
If your home has decorative exterior cladding, the greenhouse must be anchored through the finish and securely fastened to the structural wall behind it. We recommend consulting a qualified installer if you are unsure of your wall construction.
What materials are used for the frame and hardware?
The frame is constructed from heavy-duty, powder-coated, rust-proof aluminum. All hardware is made of stainless steel for long-lasting durability.
What are the greenhouse panels made of?
The panels are high-quality, 99% UV-resistant polycarbonate. The walls are 8mm double-wall polycarbonate across all models. As far as the roof, the 4.5' model uses 8mm double-wall, while the 6.5' and 8.5' models feature 8mm triple-wall polycarbonate for enhanced insulation and impact resistance.
What is the warranty on this product?
The Vego Lean-To Greenhouse comes with a 15-year limited warranty.
What are the weather ratings for the Lean-To Greenhouse?
The structure is engineered for year-round exposure:
- Wind Rating: 62 mph
- Max Snow Load: 18 psf
- Working Temperature: -4°F to 140°F (-20°C to 60°C)
Does the material of the wall I attach the greenhouse to matter?
Yes. The greenhouse is most efficient at passive heat retention when attached to high-thermal-mass materials like brick, stone, or concrete. These materials absorb solar heat during the day and radiate it back into the greenhouse at night. Attaching to wood or vinyl siding provides wind protection, though it offers less heat-storage benefit.
How does the "Lean-To" design help with temperature regulation?
By attaching to an exterior wall, the greenhouse absorbs warmth during the day. The wall then radiates that heat back into the greenhouse at night. This effect creates a more stable growing environment than fully exposed freestanding models, especially overnight and during shoulder seasons.
Why should I choose a "Lean-To" design over a freestanding greenhouse?
The lean-to design is perfect for maximizing space, as it utilizes an existing wall to create a productive growing area—ideal for patios, side yards, and smaller gardens. It provides passive heat retention and wind protection, creating a more stable growing environment than fully exposed freestanding units.
What kind of door and entrance does it feature?
It includes an oversized 6 ft tall Dutch Door with a key lock. The door has a low-profile entrance (1.1-inch threshold) to make it easy to move carts, strollers, or garden equipment in and out.
How is ventilation handled?
The greenhouse includes manual roof vents (2 for smaller models, 4 for the 8.5' model) that can be operated with one hand. Additionally, the Dutch Door's top panels open independently to improve airflow and heat dissipation.
Does it have a gutter system?
Yes, it features a Flip-Cover Gutter System. It collects rainwater for sustainable use during wet seasons, and the flip-up cover prevents leaves and debris from clogging the system during dry seasons.
How can I best utilize the space inside?
Due to the tall Dutch Door and generous vertical space, this greenhouse serves as both a growing area and a backyard retreat. Use Vego hanging kits, grid systems, and shelving to maximize space for everything from seed starting to mature plants.
Is this greenhouse suitable for beginners?
Yes. The lean-to design integrates seamlessly into your current outdoor space, eliminating the need for complex site preparation. Features like one-handed vent openers and the low-profile threshold make it accessible for all skill levels.
How does this greenhouse support sustainable gardening?
It supports sustainability through water management (the Flip-Cover Gutter System) and season extension. The polycarbonate panels allow you to start your growing season earlier and extend it later into the autumn, reducing reliance on external resources.
How do I maintain the Flip-Cover Gutter System?
The system is designed for easy maintenance. The flip-up cover allows you to open the gutter to remove leaves and debris during dry seasons. During rainy seasons, keep the cover closed to efficiently collect rainwater.
Winter Care Tips
1. Remove Heavy Snow and Ice Promptly
Regularly inspect the roof and remove accumulated snow using a soft broom or roof rake to help protect the greenhouse from excessive loads. If your greenhouse is installed beneath a sloped house roof, watch for sliding snow or ice from above and clear it promptly to help protect the greenhouse from impact damage.
2. Check Attachments and Seals
Before winter, inspect the wall mounting hardware, fasteners, and weather seals to ensure everything is secure and ready for seasonal conditions.
3. Ventilate on Sunny Days
Even in winter, temperatures inside the greenhouse can rise quickly. Open the roof vent, side vent, or Dutch door as needed to reduce heat buildup and condensation.
How well do polycarbonate and hybrid greenhouses keep heat inside?
Performance depends on climate and setup, but in general:
Polycarbonate greenhouses hold heat better and usually stay about 5–10 °F warmer than outside (with 8 mm PC panels).
Hybrid greenhouses (PC roof + glass sides) offer medium insulation, typically about 2–7 °F warmer than outside.
PC panels trap heat more effectively, while glass allows more heat to escape.
What type of heater is best for my greenhouse?
The best type of greenhouse heater depends on your greenhouse size, local climate, power availability, and plants you're growing. Here is a simple, general recommendation.
A. Small greenhouses (up to ~120 sq.ft)
Choose an electric greenhouse heater (with fan + thermostat).
B. Medium greenhouses (~120–250 sq.ft)
Use one larger electric heater, or in colder areas, two smaller electric heaters.
C. Large greenhouses (250+ sq.ft)
Use a propane / natural gas heater or 2–3 electric heaters spread around the space.
What heater features should I look for?
- Built-in thermostat (keeps a steady temperature)
- Overheat / tip-over protection
- Fan or circulation to move warm air
- For gas heaters: use in a ventilated area and follow safety instructions

Climate Region
Suitable for both mild-cold and cold regions: use lower value for mild-cold, higher value for colder areas.
Temperature Increase Target
- In Moderately cold regions (USDA Zones 7–9),
the typical winter minimum temperature ranges from 0–30 °F (-17.8 to -1.1°C). Greenhouse heating is generally designed to raise the indoor temperature by about 20 °F (approximately 11 °C). - In colder regions (USDA Zones 5–6),
the typical winter minimum temperature ranges from -20–0 °F (-28.9 to -17.8°C). Greenhouse heating is generally designed to raise the indoor temperature by about 30 °F (approximately 17°C).
